-ABOUT-
SMU SwimRunSprint is an annual aquathlon event organized by SMU Aquathlon, with SMU Sports Union and SMU Office of Student Life.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the event will be hosted virtually. Hence, this year's race is named SMU SwimRunSprint Virtual Edition 2021 (SRS VE 2021), where we aim to encourage a new norm of running/swimming - solo while staying connected via online platforms.
The current situation has affected many of us in terms of the way we live and connect with each other. SRS VE 2021 aims to unite the community while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
We aim to provide an avenue for participants to help those affected by the outbreak where funds are raised through registration fees and participation, promoting solidarity within the running and aquathlon community.
Proceeds after breakeven will be donated to our beneficiary, SHINE Children and Youth Services (Youth Community Outreach Patrol Programme). This programme aims to develop youth crime prevention leaders and reduce juvenile crime among youth through leadership development, early prevention, and intervention work.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
This safety advisory is not exhaustive but highlights aspects one should take note of when exercising. If you have any further safety concerns, please consult a doctor or coach.
ATTIRE
Wear proper exercise attire while exercising. For running, this includes proper running attire and shoes. As for swimming, this includes wearing goggles and appropriate swim attire. Avoid wearing loose articles while swimming. Don any exercise gear(s) (e.g. Ankle guards, swim cap) that will help with your exercise. Additionally, if you are not a proficient swimmer, please use a float.
ENVIRONMENT
Run in a familiar and exercise-friendly environment. Avoid exercising during adverse weather, at night, in poorly lit areas or on unpaved roads. Please check the air quality and weather conditions on mobile applications such as 'MyENV' before exercising as well. Swim only in pools. Any open-water swim submissions will be rejected. If possible, swim under the supervision of a lifeguard. Lastly, always maintain situational awareness and do not be distracted when exercising (e.g., Do not run while using your phone).
WELL-BEING AND HYDRATION
Ensure that you are in good physical condition before, throughout and after your exercise. Slow down or stop to seek medical help when you start to feel discomfort. Resume exercise only when you feel comfortable doing so. Be wary of your existing medical conditions and bring along personal medical (e.g. inhaler) if required. Remember to stay well-hydrated and if required, drink energy drinks to avoid low blood-sodium levels. Bring a bottle of water with you to hydrate as you workout as well. While abiding by the COVID-19 safety measures, try to exercise with a buddy if possible.
IN THE EVENT YOU GET INJURED...
Remain calm and do not panic. Seek immediate medical attention by calling an ambulance if the injury is severe (e.g. severe bleeding, fractures, head injury, etc.), or heading to a clinic for minor, non-urgent injuries. If you are alone, attract the attention of passers-by and get them to help. Seeking immediate medical attention is crucial as it will prevent further aggravation of your injury. If you require the assistance of SMU Aquathlon, contact us at: aquathlon@sa.smu.edu.sg. We will try our best to assist you.
COVID-19
Continue to keep our community safe by observing and heeding to all COVID-19 safety measures. A non-exhaustive list of measures includes mask-wearing, social distancing, adhering to group size gathering limitations, SHN and quarantine rules, and good personal hygiene etc. It is the responsibility of the participants to abide by the rules and restrictions issued by the Ministry of Health and the venue of exercise while participating in SRSVE 2021. For more information on the COVID-19 situation and relevant safety measures, visit the Ministry of Health website at https://www.moh.gov.sg/covid-19.
