SAFETY

Personal Health Risk and Precautions
  • Participants must follow all government and the organiser's Covid-19 guidelines.

  • All participants must follow the following COVID-19 general guidelines:

    • If you are not feeling well (i.e. fever, cough), you should stay at home and not participate in the race.

    • If someone in your household has tested positive for the virus, you should stay home and rest and not attend the competition. 

    • If you are over 65 years old or are a person with compromised health conditions, you should take greater preventive measures.

Race Entry
  • We do not accept any race registrations on the day of the event.

  • We will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete and/or incorrect entry details given by the participants.

  • Relay Teams can only consist of 2 members, each doing one discipline (either swim or run).

  • Race entries are non-transferable, nor refundable, nor can the participant change race categories once the registration has been successfully submitted.

  • Participants must arrive at the venue at the stipulated time, or they will not be allowed to register at the race.

  • SMU Students will be required to present the necessary open-water swimming proof, as stipulated in the signup form and the "Swim" section below.

General
  • We reserve the right to limit and refuse entries.

  • We reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable of continuing the race.

  • We reserve the right to amend the race rules, race course and venue without prior notification.

  • Participants are required to place their transition items at their designated location in the transition area.

  • Prior to race day, in the event of inclement weather, force majeure or other hazardous conditions, we reserve the right to reschedule or cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.

  • On race day, in the event of inclement weather, force majeure or other hazardous conditions, we reserve the right to delay the commencement of the race, shorten the race or modify the course.

    • Should the inclement weather or other hazardous conditions persist after the delay, we reserve the right to cancel the race.

    • The swim and run disciplines may have time limitations. Participants that do not make the time limit may be removed from the course.

    • We shall not be held liable in the event of missing or damaged items. Participants are advised to avoid depositing valuable or fragile items.

    • Parents and coaches are not permitted into the transition area to assist the participants during any race, nor are they permitted to swim or run alongside participants while the race is in progress.

  • We have overall authority over the race results and interpretation of the race rules.

  • SMU and SRS 2023 Organizing Committee will not be liable for any injuries, damages and irregular activities caused by the participation in SRS 2023, including the unlikely event of injuries resulting in death.

Transition Area
  • Participants must not impede the progress or obstruct other participants’ path in the transition area

  • Participants must not interfere with other participants’ equipment in the transition area.

  • Marking positions in the Transition Area is forbidden. Marks and objects used for marking purposes will be removed and the participants will not be notified

  • If the participant loses their shoe(s) or other equipment, they will be collected by the organisers and no penalty will be applied.

  • Nudity or indecent exposure is forbidden.

Swim
  • A small note for SMU Participants: Aligning with SMU's policies, SMU participants will no longer be required to possess any certification or proof of open-water swimming competencies. However, make a good judgement before attempting the race. 

  • PFDs are available for rent on demand in the sign-up form, first-come-first-serve.

  • Swimsuits must be worn.

  • Swim goggles may be worn.

  • All swimmers must wear the swim caps provided by the Organisers.

  • A swim safety buoy may be worn as long as it does not obstruct other swimmers’ paths.

  • Fins, paddles, pool buoys, snorkels or any other swimming aids are not allowed.

  • Non-registered participants are not allowed in the swimming area/route.

  • Swimmers in difficulty shall signal by raising an arm to the escorting boats/canoes for assistance.

  • Once assistance is rendered, the participant is considered as DNF.

  • Breach of any of the above rules will result in disqualification.

Run
  • No bare torso is allowed at any time.

  • Shoes must be worn during the run. 

  • Pacers are not allowed. 

  • Wearing of headphones or earbuds are not allowed during any point in time for the race.

  • Race bib must be visible at the front of participants at all times.

  • Participants must run on the designated route for the entire race.

  • The athletes will:

    • Run or walk;

    • Not crawl;

    • Not use posts, trees or other fixed elements to assist manoeuvring curves;

    • Not be accompanied by team members, team managers or other pacemakers on the course.

  • Illegal Equipment:

    • Headphone(s) and headset(s); mobile phones or any other electronic listening communication device

    • Glass containers

    • Running shoes with spiked soles

  • Breach of any of the above rules will result in disqualification.
